1. WHAT DOES İLE MEAN IN TURKISH?

“İle” can use in different meanings. İle can be used for using “and“, “with” conjunctions or to say “by“. You can understand the meaning of “ile” depending on the context. For example, look at the sentences below.ile

!KEEP IT IN MIND!

Another way to say and in Turkish: is “ve“. But don’t confuse with other meanings. So, “ile” and “ve” are synonyms words just in the meaning “and“. But “ile” have more meanings as we said above.

2. WHAT ARE THE RULES ABOUT “İLE” (and, with, by)?

  • The first important point you should know is that word can be used as suffix at the end of the word. The meaning doesn’t change even if it used as suffix.
  • If you want to use “ile” as a suffix, you can use it in 2 different forms: -le and -la. It changes according to word because of vowel harmony. If the last vowel is a, ı, o or u (back vowels) suffix will be -la, if the last vowel is e i ö or ü (front vowels) suffix will be -le.
  • If word end with an any vowel you have to put a “y between word and suffix. For example: öğrenci: student / öğrenci+y+le > öğrenciyle (with student)
  • Btw “ile” gives the answer to the questions “Kimle?(With who?), Neyle? (With what?)”. They come from “Kim ile” and “Ne ile“. So if you want to ask a qusetion, use “Kim ile, kimle, ne ile or neyle”. Here are some sample sentences that we have prepared for you!
