Ettirgen-Oldurgan Fiil in Turkish (Turkish Causative Verb)
Do you know? You can report that someone else caused a job with only one suffix together verbs in Turkish. The name of this suffix is “ettirgen-oldurgan fiil ekleri”. And the name of verb that take this suffix is “ettirgen-oldurgan fiil” (Turkish Causative Verb). In such sentences, the subject does not do the work directly. It causes the work to be done or gets someone else to do the work. In other words, someone other than the subject actually does the verb. The subject only helps. (Make someone something)

- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Baby is sleeping. The baby does the verb “sleep”. But the mother is helping the baby sleep. She makes the baby sleep. From the sentence, we understand who helped baby to sleep. So; The mother isn’t sleeping, but the mother is puting the baby to sleep.
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: Jimmy Fallon is lauging. The subject (Jimmy Fallon) does the verb “laugh” directly. So; Jimmy Fallon is lauging.
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Audience are lauging. The audience does the verb “laugh”. But Jimmy Fallon makes the audience laugh. From the sentence, we understand who caused audience laugh. So; Jimmy isn’t laughing, but Jimmy makes the audience laugh.
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: The man is getting angry. The subject (adam/man) does the verb “get angry” directly. So; the man is getting angry.
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: The woman is getting angry. The woman does the verb “get angry”. But the man makes woman angry. From the sentence we understand who caused her get angry. So; The man is not getting angry, but the man is making the woman get angry.
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: Ayça is eating. The subject (Ayça) does the verb “eat” directly. So; Ayça is eating.
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Baby is eating. The baby does the verb “eat”. But the mother is helping the baby to eat. From the sentence, we understand who helped baby to eat. So; The mother is not eating, but the mother is feeding the baby (making baby eat).
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: Asya is brushing her teeth. The subject (Asya) does the verb “brush” directly. So; Asya brushes her teeth.
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Can is brushing his teeth. Can does the verb “brush”. But his mother Asya is forcing or maybe teaching or just telling him to brush his teeth in order to find out. From the sentence, we understand who caused him to brush his teeth. So; Asya doesn’t brush his teeth, but Asya gets Can to brush his teeth.
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: The food is cooking. We know that the food is being cooked, but we don’t know who is cooking. No information about that. So; The food’s cooking
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Jessie is cooking. The verb “to cook” belongs to food. But Jessie is getting the food cooked. From the sentence, we understand who made the food cook. So; Jessie made food cook.
- In the image above, in the 1st photo: Daniel is walking. Daniel does the verb “walk” directly. So; Daniel is walking.
- In the image above, in the 2nd photo: Dogs are walking. Dogs do the verb “walk”. The thing that have been said to us in second sentence is “walking of dogs, not Daniel’s”. Okay! who helps the dogs to walk? Who makes them go out and walk? Answer is: the owner of the dogs Daniel. So; what is given in the sentence is walking of dogs and Daniel’s making dogs walk.

- Ettirgen ve oldurgan fiil suffixes consist of 3 different suffixes: -r, -t and -dır
- Suffix -r can appear in 6 different forms as: -ır, -ir, ur, ür, -ar, -er.
- Suffix -t can appear in 5 different forms as: -t, -it, -it, -ut, -üt.
- Suffix -dır can be in 4 different ways (-dır, -dir, -dur, -dür) depending on 4 ways vowel harmony. In addition, the first letter turns into “t” (-tir, -tir, -tur, -tür) in words ending with “f, s, t, k, ç, ş, h, p” depending on consonant harmony.
