En Means In Turkish / Most in Turkish

En Means In Turkish / Most in Turkish

Spread the love

When describing something or someone, the word “en” is used before the adjective to indicate that it is the best in terms of that feature. It compares someone or something with all other similars and emphasizes that it is superior. That is, it adds the meaning of superiority. Of course, this can be positive or negative. Its English equivalent is the word “most”. For example;
En zeki insan (en + adjective + noun)
The most intelligent person (most + adjective + noun)

  • Good news! This structure doesn’t have any grammar rule as vowel harmony or anything. Because “en” is not a suffix, it is an adverb which is used before adjectives.

Example Sentences

Dünyanın en saldırgan hayvanı ayıdır. (The world’s most attacker animal is bear.)
Dünyanın en uzun hayvanı zürafadır. (The world’s longest animal is giraffe.)
Dünyanın en ağır hayvanı balinadır. (The world’s heaviest animal is whale.)
Dünyanın en hızlı hayvanı ayı değildir. (The world’s fastest animal is not beer.)
Dünyanın en yavaş hayvanı kaplumbağadır. (The world’s slowest animal is turtle.)
