-ayazmak / -eyazmak in Turkish
This suffix indicates that the verb it ends up with will almost happen, but it isn’t. The verb was almost going to be happen but didn’t! We usually use it in negative situations, when something bad will happen to us, but fortunately we do not experience that bad situation. It is not a very common suffix.
⇒Karlı yolda yürürken düşeyazdı.
(S/he almost fell while walking on the snowy road.)
⇒Bilgisayarımı kırayazdım.
(I almost broke my computer.)
⇒Babası sinirden onu döveyazdı.
(His father nearly beat him in anger.)
DİKKAT! This verb is not used with the negative suffix -me -ma.
