1. ACELE İŞE ŞEYTAN KARIŞIR
Lexical meaning: Devil interferes in the rush work.
Idioms meaning: You have work and you are in a hurry to finish it. You wanna get rid of it as soon as possible. You think little about the details, just working without a plan. But you can’t focus and you always make a mistake somewhere.
Because as long as you want to work and finish quickly, the devil will come and try to spoil your work! It means there will be a lot of mishaps because you think little about all its aspects of the business. That’s why ancestors said; “Focus on your work, don’t rush, because acele işe şeytan karışır.”
2. BURNUNDAN KIL ALDIRMAMAK / TOZ KONDURMAMAK
Lexical meaning: To not let taking hair from nose / to don’t let to put a dust
Idioms meaning: Who act like this always expect positive criticism. They never listen to negative criticism and they just cover their ears. They act grumpy and arrogant. Because they do not listen to those around them, they may not realize the simple solutions to their problems.
3. PEŞİNDE DOLAŞMAK / PEŞİNDE GEZMEK
Lexical meaning: To walk around after (someone). Bat around (someone).
Idioms meaning: Someone is watching what you are doing, constantly following you wherever you go. This person obviously has a purpose that concerns you or has something to do with you. It’s like it’s always after you and wants something from you. Here, we can say, “Biri senin peşinde dolaşıyor. / Biri senin peşinde geziyor.”
4. GÖZÜN AYDIN
Lexical meaning: Your are eye is bright.
Idioms meaning: It is a congratulatory word said to someone who has met someone or something they love very much when a positive event that has been expected for a long time takes place when something very happy happens.
5. KENDİNİ TUTAMAMAK
Lexical meaning: To can’t keep itself
Idioms meaning:
- A situation out of hand. Not being able to keep secret what is inside you, not being able to be silent anymore. Also, if you can’t control your emotions in situations such as crying, sadness, laughing, cheering up, loving, worrying.
- You can also use this idiom when you have acted undesirably with a sudden, couldn’t able to control yourself and acted uncontrollably. Hope you don’t have to use it because it has a negative connotation.
